A little history about cranes:
In Japanese culture, cranes are said to live for a thousand years, and are a symbol of longevity and good fortune. The tradition of folding a thousand origami cranes, or senzaburu, is based on this belief. Cranes are also a symbol of peace and hope, especially after World War II. The story of Sadako Sasaki, a schoolgirl who folded origami cranes in hopes of recovery after being exposed to radiation in the bombing of Hiroshima, has made cranes a symbol of the innocent victims of war. Cranes are also considered the bird of happiness. They are often depicted in art, literature, and mythology.
In Chinese culture, cranes are a symbol of the elegance of the immortals. They are often depicted with a pine tree, stone, tortoise, or deer.
